Last week I reported on the release of a group of threatened Florida scrub jays at Wingate Creek State Park. We went to check on the jays but they were nowhere to be found. On the way home, we stopped at another preserve a few miles to the west. This area was home to scrub jays in the past and we were successfully able to find a small group of the birds. Unfortunately it wasn’t the best of days for photography. The cloudy skies washed out the beautiful colors of the birds.

Over the past few days, a friend confirmed she found the jays at Wingate Creek State Park. On Tuesday I joined a small group of photographers to search for the birds again. This time we were successful. As we hiked one of the main trails in the park, we heard several of the birds calling in the distance. Eventually we located a group of three that were curious about our presence and provided some good photo opportunities. The clear blue skies also provided a much better day for photography. You can see in the photos that all the jays are banded. Oh, and yes, the spiders were still hanging around.
